About tankless water heater installation

Tankless heaters need more gas at full fire than most tanks, so gas line sizing is checked first. Venting usually changes too.

We size by the number of fixtures you run at once and the incoming water temperature in winter.

Tankless water heaters heat water on demand through a compact heat exchanger. They save space and stop running out of hot water, but they are sensitive to scale. Water across much of the GTA carries enough minerals to coat the exchanger over time, cutting efficiency and eventually triggering error codes.

Tank water heaters are simpler, yet they have their own wear points: sacrificial anode rods, thermocouples or igniters, gas valves and venting. Sediment collects at the bottom of the tank and causes rumbling and slower recovery.

Many homes in the area rent their water heater. If yours is a rental, check your agreement before booking, because the rental provider may be responsible for repairs. We can still advise and work on owned equipment.

Repair or replace?

Tankless heaters that are descaled regularly often run fifteen years or more, so most faults within that window are worth repairing.

A tank heater that leaks from the tank itself cannot be repaired and needs replacement. Tanks past about ten to twelve years with recurring problems are also candidates for replacement.

Descaling a tankless heater once a year, or more often with very hard water, keeps it running efficiently. Winter is when hot water demand peaks, so fall is a sensible time for maintenance.
