About indoor pool heater repairs
Indoor pool rooms are humid and often contain chemical vapours, which accelerate corrosion on heater parts. Combustion air must come from a safe source.
Indoor pools may also use boilers with heat exchangers, or dehumidifiers that recover heat into the water.
A pool heater only works when water flow, gas supply, ignition and safety switches all line up. The pump must move enough water to close the pressure switch, the gas valve must open, the igniter must light the burner and the flame sensor must prove the flame. If any link fails, the heater locks out and the display shows a code, or nothing at all.
In Ontario the swimming season is short, so pool heaters spend half the year sitting idle under snow. Mice nest in cabinets, spiders build webs in burner tubes and water left in the heat exchanger can freeze and crack it if winterizing was skipped. Many of the calls we see in May are caused by what happened in November.
Heaters also depend on water chemistry. Low pH or high chlorine eats copper heat exchangers from the inside, and scale builds up when calcium is high. We check the heater and look at the bigger picture so the repair lasts.
Signs you may need indoor pool heater repairs
- Corrosion on heater parts
- Error codes on an indoor pool heater or boiler
- The pool room feels damp and the water is cool
- The heater display shows a fault code or stays blank
- The burner lights briefly and then shuts off
- Water around the base of the heater or dripping from the cabinet
- Black soot near the exhaust or inside the cabinet
- The pool warms much more slowly than it used to
- Clicking, rumbling or banging sounds during operation

Before you book
Find the model and serial number on the rating plate and take a clear photo. Note when the problem started, what the display or pilot is doing and any sounds or smells. You can attach the photo to the quote form.

How the visit works
- 1
Send the code
Tell us the brand, model and any code on the display. A photo of the rating plate is very useful.
- 2
Flow and power check
We confirm the pump, filter and valves are delivering enough water and that the heater has power.
- 3
Ignition sequence
We watch each stage of the start sequence to see exactly where it stops.
- 4
Quote the fix
You get the cause and the price before any part is replaced.
- 5
Run and verify
We run the heater through full cycles and confirm temperature rise and safe shutdown.
Repair or replace?
Igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, thermistors and gas valves are reasonable repairs on most heaters. A unit under about ten years old with a sound heat exchanger is usually worth fixing.
When a heat exchanger leaks on an older heater, replacement often costs a large share of a new heater and it may be wiser to replace the whole unit. We give you both numbers so the choice is clear.
Book spring startups in April or early May. Heaters that are opened, cleaned and tested before the pool opens rarely surprise their owners on the first warm weekend.
